About Taryn Thompson Photography

Taryn Thompson first opened her photography studio (Taryn A. Hecker Photography) in February 2009 following a decade-long career as a newspaper reporter.

A graduate of Lakeland High School, Taryn studied journalism and photography at North Idaho College. She began her newspaper career as a reporter for The Coeur d'Alene Press and spent nearly 8 years as a reporter for The Spokesman Review's North Idaho bureau. She specialized in investigative reporting and coverage of the criminal justice system. Her award-winning reporting included coverage of the state and federal cases against serial killer Joseph Duncan.

Taryn's favorite part of her job was covering community news –sharing the stories of the people and places of North Idaho. Now she is using her camera to capture the character and unique personalities of the people who live in Coeur d'Alene, Spokane and the surrounding communities of Post Falls, Hayden, Rathdrum, Spirit Lake, Twin Lakes, Liberty Lake, Athol, Bayview, Bonners Ferry, Priest River, St. Maries and Sandpoint.

Her work has appeared in The Inlander, Inland Business Catalyst and The River Journal.

Taryn specializes in infant portraits, children's portraits, family portraits, commercial photography, boudoir portraits, maternity portraits, engagement portraits and wedding photography both in her full-service portrait studio and through location photography in the Spokane Metro area including Coeur d'Alene, Hayden, Post Falls, Rathdrum, Spirit Lake, Twin Lakes, Liberty Lake, Athol, Bayview, Sandpoint, Bonners Ferry, Priest River, St. Maries and the Palouse.

When she isn't behind the camera, Taryn enjoys being on the lake – frozen or thawed – with her husband and best fishing buddy, Phil Thompson. She enjoys all the wilds of North Idaho has to offer, from fly-fishing to whitewater rafting, camping and exploring.

She is the very proud mother of two incredibly brilliant, special and amazing kids. Her son, Bailey, is a whiz at origami and makes the most awesome huckleberry pancakes. Her daughter, Faith, is sporty and spunky, likes to make boys cry and has no use for the color pink.

Taryn is very grateful for the love and blessings from her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She is also very thankful for the support of her fantabulous husband, wonderful family and friends, and the clients who trust Taryn Thompson Photography to create priceless memories.
